In 1863, Emporia State University was founded as a normal school, teaching teachers innovative strategies to improve their classrooms. Our special education program embodies the same principles that ESU’s early programs did, richly providing for those in the classroom. With concentrations in high incidence and gifted, talented, and creative, the program is designed to support the varying needs of any school community.

The M.S. in Special Education offered through Emporia State University has adapted to the changing graduate student demographic and is now offered entirely online. This allows our students to complete the program on their schedule from their location.

At Emporia State University, we understand the challenges of affording a graduate degree. We offer competitive tuition rates and scholarships, including a new graduate student scholarship, which are available for both on campus and online students.
